But when you’ve got some time or you want a unique experience, you need to check out the local coffee shops in and around the Tampa area. You’ll get an excellent cup of coffee, delicious food, and probably an experience you’d never get in a chain.

The Grind

Located in Westchase, The Grind is a locally owned coffee shop and tea bar that got it’s start as The Campus Grind at USF St. Pete. Check it out for the hand-crafted espresso and coffee drinks, the full tea bar, or the great food including homemade pastries and the vegan and gluten-free options. Either way, expect great service, excellent coffee, and a nice atmosphere.

Buddy Brew Coffee

Whether you go to the shop in Hyde Park, the roastery on Kennedy Boulevard, or you find the BBC Brew Truck around Tampa, you’re in for a treat. Buddy Brew Coffee takes their coffee very seriously. You’ve heard of craft beer, right? This is craft coffee from farmers who offer the highest quality beans that are roasted on-site. BBC believes in good coffee, and so should you. Best of all, if you can’t make it one of their locations, plenty of local coffee shops carry their coffee - that’s how good it is!

Tre Amici @ The Bunker

Tre Amici, located in Ybor City, is what you imagine when you think of a true coffeehouse. Not only do they offer organic, fair-trade coffee, but you can see local artists or enjoy local mike nights that feature music, poetry slams, and readings. Of course, you can also have some good eats and beer and wine there, too.

Jet City Espresso

Here’s some local coffee trivia for you: Jet City Espresso, with locations in Hyde Park and Seminole Heights, is older than Starbucks. That’s right, they’ve been open since the mid-1990s as a Seattle-style coffee shop. After all those years of experience, they know a thing or two about coffee. If you’re looking for a snack, they’ve got it, and they even offer Paleo options and gluten-free choices. Try their specialty, the Cafe Borgia, a honey and orange infused latte - not something you can get at the chain shops.

Victory Coffee and Tea Bar

If you’re over in Channelside, check out Victory Coffee and Tea Bar. You can get a coffee (or tea) plus breakfast and lunch. They’re dog-friendly, offering snacks for your pooch, plus it’s a great place to hang out. Set up a board game for you and your friends or kick back and relax with your cup of joe. And if you’re looking for something truly unique, check out their lavender soy latte.
