5 Things to Do In Summer Around Tampa Bay
The good part about being a local is that you can go see the “sights” after the tourists go home and when the weather cools down a little. But if you want to get out of the office and experience more of Tampa this summer, here are a few ways to do it:
Watch the Sunset
There’s nothing more beautiful than the Florida sun, especially when it’s going down over the horizon. Enjoy the entertainment, food, and vendors at Pier 60. Sunset Beach in Tarpon Springs is a quiet, laid back option with a park for the kids to play. Curtis Hixon Park offers a great view and is a good way to wrap up a day of playing and hanging out with the family.
Find a Museum
It’s hot outside! Get out of the house without melting by checking out any of the Tampa Bay area’s museums. The Tampa Bay Museum of Arts offers unique exhibits throughout the year, as well as programs for kids and adults. Take the kids to Glazer Children’s Museum for hands-on learning in a fun and exciting new way. If you can stand the heat, learn a bit about the past at Heritage Village and see how people lived and worked in the 19th century.
Take Everyone Out to the Ballpark
Baseball season is in full swing during the summer. Watch the game, grab a beer, and enjoy a hotdog. Of course, you can see the Tampa Bay Rays play, but they’re not the only game in town. Get tickets for the Clearwater Threshers, the Dunedin Bluejays, or the Tampa Yankees. The point is to have a good time with friends or family and soak up the summer.
Dip Into the Pool
If you don’t have a pool in your backyard, not a problem. Community pools are available all around the Tampa Bay area. The city of Tampa has multiple pools to check out: Bobby Hicks, Copeland, Cuscaden, Danny Del Rio, and many more. The St. Pete Beach Family Aquatic Center is great for the whole family.
Get Out on the Water
Make sure you’ve got plenty of sunscreen and a lifejacket, but get out on the water this summer. The Tampa area is too beautiful not to enjoy the open water. You can take a fishing charter and catch something big or small. Want a date night on the water? There’s always a dinner cruise on the Yacht StarShip. Rent a pontoon boat, a bowrider, or even a jet ski and have a great time this summer.
You can always hit the tourist spots or find a concert in the summer. The Tampa Bay area is known for great entertainment and plenty to do. But if you want to avoid the crowds and maybe even the heat, you’ll find it here, too.
