Eco-friendly holiday decorations for your Tampa home are easier than ever to find and do more than help the planet. They also save you money over time. Take a look at a few ways you can go green this holiday season with your decorations.

LED Lights

If you’ve been using the same twisted string of lights year after year, it may be time to replace them. When you do, look for LED lights. They are better able to handle the weather and last much longer while using less energy. A few years ago your choices were limited, but now you can find almost any color in LED lights.

Natural Decor

When you think of Christmas, you probably think of a green tree. Take that green to a new level with live plants as part of your decorations. Rosemary, thyme, and sage are beautiful, fragrant, and useful in the kitchen. Don’t want plants to worry about? Pick up pine cones from the ground and put them in a bowl. Simmer cloves and ginger on the stove to create a heavenly scent instead of burning candles.

DIY Decor

Take yourself back to childhood and teach your kids a few things about old school DIY holiday decorations. String popcorn and wrap it around the tree. Make paper chains to hang around the house. Cut up old gift wrap and make paper snowflakes. You’ll feel like a kid again and when the holiday is over, you can put everything in the recycle bin.

Real Dinnerware

A beautifully set table is an excellent way to decorate your dining room at the holidays. If you’ve always used paper plates and plastic utensils for the big holiday meal, it may be time to do something different. This may be the year to invest in the real thing. Your holiday dinnerware will last for years, add to the decor during the holidays, and allow you to stop buying paper products you can’t recycle.

Made from Recycled Materials

If you prefer to buy your decorations, look for anything made from recycled or repurposed materials. Manufacturers will often label their products knowing some shoppers want eco-friendly items. Go to a local craft fair or artisan shop and you’ll likely find decorations made from repurposed wood, tin or locally sourced items. When you buy from local crafters, you help small businesses and the planet. It’s a win-win.

When you’re looking for new ways to decorate your Tampa Bay home this holiday season, consider going green. There are more options now than ever before. You’ll save yourself money and help the planet. Plus, it gives you a reason to hunt for new, interesting, and unique decorations that your friends and family will notice and love.
